Perfect Peace

It amazes me how horses know exactly what we need and when we need it.

This week, I was out at the barn doing my chores, and I felt myself rushing to hurry up and get done. I don’t like to rush, especially around horses, because they feed off of your energy. But sometimes, I am not feeling well physically, and all I want is a hot shower and my bed. This was one of those days.

After I was done feeding the horses, it was time to turn them out into their pastures. My horse, Grace, is normally very ready to go out because this girl loves her grass! So, it was odd that she seemed half-asleep every time I walked by her.

I went to her stall door to check and make sure she was okay, and she then put me in tears.

As I walked up, she turned her head to me, looked at me for a second, and then placed her head on my chest. As she did this, a worship song came on my Airpods with these lyrics:

I lift every fear to the Heavens

Watch them disappear in Your presence

One by one, they fall into perfect peace

You know everything, yet You listen

Through my anxious thoughts with compassion

One by one, they fall into perfect peace

So I will be still, oh I will be still

And know that you are, know that you are God…

The stillness that washed over me in this moment cannot be put into words. As I inhale my breath, Grace exhales hers. Suddenly, all I could feel was her warm breath, whiskers on my arm, and an overwhelming amount of peace.

I thought to myself, what perfect timing. A song about stillness comes on the second my horse rests her head on my chest and doesn’t move an inch.

For those of you who aren’t horse people, it’s not super common for a horse to randomly do that, especially at feed time, but that goes to show you how God can use anything and anyone at any time to bless you.

I believe God worked through her in this moment to touch me with His perfect peace. And let me tell you, it worked!

I also believe God wants to do the same for you today. Jesus is the Prince of Peace and I pray that if you are reading this, He will bless you with His perfect peace, too!

Journal Prompt:

How would today look if you were filled with peace? Write down anything that is holding you back from receiving peace, and ask God to bless you with His perfect peace.
