Stepping Into Faith
Have you ever felt underqualified or not good enough? Maybe somebody asked you to do something out of your comfort zone, and you instantly felt incompetent. Or maybe God has called you to do something that makes no sense at all. You’ve questioned and prayed, wondering why He would choose someone like you for that particular job.
I have been here more times than I’d like to admit. My mind instantly feels unprepared and unequipped when God points me in a direction that is the complete opposite of where I thought I was headed. I quickly think of somebody else in my life who is better suited for the job. I prefer to stay in my comfort zone because that is where I feel safe. Yet, as much as I try to get out of whatever is making me uncomfortable, God still chooses me.
Comfort zones are a funny thing. We love to be in them, yet we can get so easily stuck in our familiarity. I learned with horses that staying stuck in your comfort zone keeps you from growing. In order for you to learn and grow, you must go outside of your comfort zone.
Another lesson I’ve learned is that if God will call you to something, He will help you through it. Look at the disciples. Were those guys qualified for the job? Do you think they all felt immediately comfortable leaving their families to go travel? I’m sure that they had their concerns. I’m sure they wondered why Jesus would choose them. In their eyes, they were just ordinary men, unqualified to lead a ministry. Yet, Jesus chose them and equipped them.
Next time you are feeling scared of God’s calling or completely uncomfortable and unqualified, remember this:
As you are stepping out of your comfort zone, you are stepping into faith.
If He calls you to it, He will help you through it. He is there for you and will prepare you for what’s ahead.
I promise that as you trust in Him and His plan for your life, He will never lead you astray. Jesus is our shepherd and following Him would be the best decision you’d ever make!!
Journal Prompt:
When was the last time you felt out of your comfort zone? What areas in your life do you feel underqualified? How can you step out in faith today and trust God?
