Your Best Shelter

How do you trust that you and your loved ones will be okay? How do you know when the storm will be over? How bad will this storm be?

These are all questions that run through someone’s mind when they are forced to face a storm. Anxiety creeps up in the communities as the storm gets closer. Surely, their hearts are frightened. The anticipation and uncertainty can cause pure chaos and fear. Somehow, even while we are facing these emotions, we can find comfort in knowing that we are not in this alone.

The night that Jesus and His disciples went by boat across the Sea of Galilee was a major test of faith. Although the waves and the winds were crashing down on their boat because of a horrible storm, Jesus was sleeping peacefully.

Again, anxiety began to arise in His people. Instead of trusting that it was going to be okay, they went and woke up Jesus, begging Him to save them. Jesus then turned to His disciples and said, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40).

Jesus then rose and calmed the seas and the winds. The winds and waves still know His name. They knew His name then, and they know His name now.

I can’t tell you why bad storms exist, but I can tell you that in the midst of the worst storm of your life, Jesus wants you to look to Him.

God is our best shelter. He is our refuge and strength. He hears us when we cry for help, and He is a Deliverer. He is a God of love, grace, and patience. He is our Shepherd and will always lead us out of the darkest valleys and into the light.

For me, no matter what type of storm I am facing, I can find assurance in knowing that I am in the best hands of my Heavenly Father. You are, too.
