Faith Over Fear
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. – Proverbs 3:5-6
I see God in horses every day. Horses are just one of those creatures that are so magnificent. They are big and strong, yet so gentle and quiet. To some, horses can be very intimidating. When you have an animal over 1,000 pounds under you, fear is understandable. But yet, there is something courageous that happens when we climb up in the saddle. We choose to trust that our horse will take care of us. If we can so easily choose to trust in horses when we get on them, why is it so hard to trust in God to take care of us too?
I wish I had that perfect answer to give you. Sometimes, it is really difficult to trust God. Especially when our circumstances are so troubling. We wonder, “God, where are you?” Surely if God loves me, He will show up and take care of my circumstances. Unfortunately, God doesn’t act on our timing, but solely on His. I wish there was a super-secret word that I could say to God that would make Him take all the pain, confusion, impatience, and doubt away. But then where would faith take place?
You see, faith is the confidence in what we hope for, and the assurance about what we do not see. (Hebrews 11:1). We need faith. We need trust. We need these things because God is the only one that knows our future. He has mapped out our lives, and to fulfill our purpose, we must follow Him, even when His plan doesn’t make sense.
The truth is you are so loved. So much so that God sent His one and only son to die for you, yes you! The one who is reading this right now. It may be hard to trust Him at times, but God is taking care of your circumstances, in His way, and in His timing. So do not fear, only trust. Surrender control, because God is fighting for you!
Jesus told us that we would have trouble in this world, but He also told us to take heart because He has overcome this world, and that in Him we would have peace. (John 16:33) Now I don’t know about you, but that gives me so much comfort and hope, knowing that Jesus Himself has overcome every trial and tribulation we could ever face.
So take heart, dear friend, and choose to put your trust in the one person who will never let you down. The one who is the source of all peace.
