Identity in Christ
Understanding our Identity in Christ can be challenging as Christians. We try to hold on to the Bible verses that say we are loved, but somehow we find ourselves feeling so defeated and questioning who we are entirely.
It doesn’t help that we live in a world that suffocates us with lies and comparison traps. Everywhere we turn, we are faced with worldly views and looked down upon for not meeting social and cultural expectations. We try to be a positive influence and hold on to the truths that we know about ourselves, and suddenly we’re knocked down for not being good enough.
Recently I have been facing this struggle when working with all the horses I exercise, including my own. Doubt creeps up and makes me question if I am good enough. I have faced a few challenges with some of the horses, and on the days that it seems impossible to have a breakthrough, I feel like giving up. What gets me through those days is relying on my identity in Him. Remembering that He is with me, He is for me, and I am His beloved daughter. (I also like to remind myself that God is the ultimate horseman and will give me the wisdom and guidance I need!)
I believe God makes it so very simple for us to understand that we are His children, we are loved, and we are more than good enough, but we struggle to receive these truths because we don’t always see them in ourselves. This is where the enemy comes in.
The Bible says that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. It also says that he is a roaring lion, on the prowl, looking for someone to devour. You see, he will try to take you down in any way he can because the last thing he wants is to see you flourish and blossom into your true identity.
Our job as believers is to turn to our Heavenly Father, ask Him for help, and surrender all control. God will keep you safe from the enemies’ attacks and keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him. (Isaiah 26:3). Rest in who you are in Christ, knowing that you are protected, safe, loved, and pursued by our loving and gracious God. Know that He is with you, He is for you, and you are His beloved child.
God made you to be so uniquely special, and you are the only you there is.
Here are a few truths for you to hold on to today.
God says you are:
Chosen (Ephesians 1:11)
Forgiven (1 John 1:9)
Loved (1 John 4:19)
Free (Galatians 5:1)
Never Alone (Joshua 1:9)
Wonderfully and Fearfully Made (Psalm 139:14)
