Our Relationship With God
Being intentional in our relationship with God isn’t always easy. Like any relationship, it takes work. The challenging part of this is that when we don’t put in the effort, it can very much feel like God is distant. But the amazing part of being in a relationship with God is that He has endless grace and forgiveness towards us, and He always has open arms ready to receive us and love us unconditionally.
I like to say that horses are very similar to God in a lot of ways. They offer this abundance of love and grace to us, and they are the most forgiving animals in the world. Also, they are always happy to see you and spend time with you. If you pour into your relationship with them, they will have your back and show up for you in all the ways you need them to, just as God does for us.
On the flipside, we humans are like horses in a lot of ways, too. We both use facial expressions/body language to express emotion and communicate, we both have a need for social interaction, we both need trust to build a relationship, and we both like attention and treats.
But one of the main reasons is that horses are herd animals. They need a leader, an “Alpha” to protect them and lead them. We also need a leader, a shepherd to guide us and protect us from harm. This is where God steps in, our Alpha and Omega, our ultimate leader and Savior.
What I love so much about God is that He is always so understanding of my seasons in life. He always welcomes me in every time I spend time with Him. He never wants me to feel shame or guilt, even though sometimes I allow myself to feel these things.
He loves me way better than I can ever love myself. He shows up for me and wants nothing more than to be with me and comfort me. When I am in my lowest of lows, I visualize Jesus sitting there right next to me in the valley, holding me.
It doesn’t matter how far away I may feel from God, He is always with me and so very near.
I’m not always great at spending time with Him, but I pray for a heart that desires Him over anything else, and I always want to strive to be better! Some seasons are great, while others are not so great. Just remember we are only human, and we can never be perfect.
Let Him in today, and allow His love, grace, and forgiveness to flood into every part of you.
Journal Prompt:
